Biog:
Ronan is from Belfast and now lives in London. He has published five novels, including The Catastrophist (shortlisted for the Whitbread Novel Award and the IMPAC Award) and Havoc in Its Third Year, which was longlisted for the Booker and won the Hughes and Hughes/Irish Times Irish Novel of the Year Award in 2006. Fire and Rain, his memoir of Long Kesh, was broadcast on BBC Radio 4 and won a Sony Gold Medal. His screen credits include Public Enemies, directed by Michael Mann. His most recent television work was Top Boy and Hidden. Earlier television work included 10 Days to War, The Hamburg Cell, Rebel Heart and Love Lies Bleeding. He has published numerous articles and essays in The London Review of Books, Irish Times, Los Angeles Times and Newstatesman. He is a regular contributor to The Guardian and Observer newspapers, writing on various aspects of the Arts, and on Politics, and Social and Penal Policy.
Course Theme:
During this three day workshop we will be looking at story, character and atmosphere. It will involve a couple of exercises and practical writing challenges.
