Poetry Getting Started
Director: John Hartley Williams
Biog:
John lives in Berlin and has published twelve collections of poetry, two of which were short-listed for the TS Eliot Prize. A reader friendly guide to the writing of poetry called Teach Yourself Writing Poetry, co-written with Matthew Sweeney, has just been reissued by Hodder.
Course Theme:
In verse as in prose there is one basic principle you always have to observe – Keep Moving! You need to make sure your motor never idles. Think of the way a good movie holds your attention by constantly changing viewpoint as it follows the action.
This workshop will examine the way poets keep their poems moving along and suggest what strategies you might adopt to get your writing into gear.
