Writing for Theatre
Biog:
Mark’s plays include From Both Hips, Howie the Rookie, Made in China, Crestfall and Terminus. Screenplays include Intermission, Boy A, Perrier’s Bounty and most recently Broken.
Course Theme:
The course will cover all of the tenets I consider to be invaluable to a writer, and each day will cover a different area in writing for theatre. Day one will deal with plotting and structure, how to find ideas, how to build and shape a story. Day two will deal with characterisation and dialogue, creating people who are distinctive and original and real. Day three will focus in on a single scene, exploring in detail the rewrite process, how to hone and refine and enrich as we draft and redraft. Throughout we will constantly refer to and discuss our own distinct perspectives on the creative process in an effort to discover which approaches best suit each individual.
