2012 Writers’ Week Festival Announced

The brave, the bold and the beautiful were all out in force for the launch of the 41st  festival of Writers’ Week at Dublin’s Mansion House.

A small gathering of literary minds in Listowel in 1971 resulted in what is now Ireland’s most prestigious literary festival.  After four decades, this festival of books and fun continues to sparkle and provide us with the very best in literature.  The festival begins on Wednesday 30th May and continues until Sunday 3rd June.  Will you be there?

This year’s festival will be punctuated with performances by the very best in writing including, Patrick deWitt, Germaine Greer, Peter Taylor, Simon Armitage, John Lanchester, Helen Dunmore, Julian Gough, Aifric Campbell, Maureen Gaffney, Mary Kenny, Paul Durcan, Macdara Woods, Terry Lynch to name a small selection and for the younger audience, Jeremy Strong, Anna Carey, Oisin McGann, Roisin Meaney and Sarah Webb.

Festival Chairman Sean Lyons stated that “Even in these challenging times, we have a spectacular international and local line up of guests coming to Listowel again this year. Literally and literarily, there will be something for everybody!”

This year marks the tenth anniversary of the death of John B Keane, the much loved and respected man of letters. A highlight of this year’s Writers’ Week will be the presentation of the inaugural J B Keane Lifetime Achievement in the Arts Award which recognises outstanding contribution to Irish literature.
