We are delighted to host, in association with the Seanchaí Kerry Writers’ Museum, a Special Day of Celebration to mark the 80th birthday of North Kerry poet and novelist Brendan Kennelly on Sunday 17th April. Now retired from teaching, Brendan was also Professor of Modern Literature at Trinity College for many years.
The day-long series of events will commence at 11am at the Kerry Writers’ Museum with a viewing of the acclaimed documentary ‘River of Words’. Included in the programme is a unique ‘Brendan Kennelly Literary Tour’ which invites you to journey through the North Kerry locations close to Brendan’s heart, with readings by local actors.
The final event of the day starts at 7pm at The Arms Hotel with ‘A Celebration’ of the work and life of this great poet, with Gabriel Fitzmaurice, The Kennelly Family, Dr Mark Hederman of Glenstal Abbey, and poets Michael Coady & Katie Donovan. Music will be provided by the uniquely gifted singer Noel O’Grady, whose repertoire straddles the work of many great Irish writers.
We hope you will join us for what promises to be a very special day in celebrating the work & life of our great poet.
