Concerts and Big Tops

When you hit forty, you want to celebrate in style – especially if you’re Ireland’s longest-running literary festival.

This year, we have Fossett’s Circus in the centre of Listowel town for the whole weekend. The Big Top will play host to most of our children’s events, before converting into an 800-seat concert venue in the evening – with two very special (and very different) concerts coming your way.

On Friday, June 3rd, at 9.30pm, Julie Feeney will step inside the Big Top for our first 40th Anniversary Concert. An award-winning composer and singer, as well the producer of critically acclaimed albums Pages and 13 Songs, Julie has been receiving rave reviews everywhere she goes. Described by Hot Press as “eccentric pop genius” with “mesmerising stage presence”, Julie has been playing to sell out audiences across America and Ireland. If you’d like a taster, have a listen to Impossibly Beautiful and Love is a Tricky Thing.

Then on Saturday, June 4th we have An Evening with Joseph O’Connor and Philip King. Best-selling novelist Joseph O’Connor has made the shortlist for the 2011 Kerry Group Irish fiction Award and is also known for being a people’s poet through his weekly radio column. Singer, filmmaker and broadcaster, Philip King, will be joined by his band, Scullion, in this up close and personal event, which also features a special surprise guest. Combining the talents of some of the very best in music, film, literature and broadcasting, the evening promises to surprise, enthral and entertain.

When it comes to children’s events, more than 1,100 children will have the opportunity to come face to face with some of the world’s best authors including John Boyne, John Connolly, Ali Sparkes and Sarah Webb – in a glorious circus setting. In keeping with the Listowel tradition of bringing together like minds, this is an excellent opportunity for the younger generation of book readers to mingle with their literary heroes and immerse themselves in the world of books, fantasy, fun and imagination.

Tickets for children’s events are on sale now and concert tickets go on sale Tuesday, May 4th. Click here for details on how to book – we have special offers currently available for weekly ticket purchases.
