LISTOWEL Writers’ Week is delighted to announce the appointment of Philip Ardagh as International Literary Advisor to The National Children’s Literary Festival at Listowel Writers’ Week.
Roald Dahl Funny Prize-winning author Philip Ardagh — two metres tall with a stupendously bushy beard – is an instantly recognisable figure at literary festivals around the world. Author of over 100 books including The Grunts, and the award-winning Grubtown Tales and Eddie Dickens adventures, Philip is a long-time friend and supporter of Listowel Writers’ Week.
Festival Chairperson, Catherine Moylan said, “We’re delighted to have Philip on board! His great talent, wit and creativity make him the ideal candidate to enrich our determination to foster a love of literature across the younger generation. A UK-based Advisor also supports our efforts to reach a wider, international audience.” Philip Ardagh succeeds Sarah Webb as Literary Advisor to the Festival.
Upon accepting the appointment Philip Ardagh said: “With Listowel being one of the longest-running and finest literature festivals in the world, to say that I am delighted to have been appointed the next International Children’s Literary Advisor and ‘Ambassador’ is a bit like saying that the Pope is a Catholic. I’m over the moon! Despite my having size 16 feet, filling Sarah Webb’s shoes will not be easy but it’s a challenge my beard and I relish. I’m already fizzing with ideas for 2020.”
The National Children’s Literary Festival wholeheartedly welcomes Philip to the team and very much look forward to sharing his ‘fizzing ideas’ in due course!
Now in its 9th year, the Festival has lots of events on offer for children and families including treasure hunts, writing workshops, quizzes, face-painting, pantomimes, street performers, as well as readings from some of the luminaries of children’s literature. It is a fantastic family occasion, with events full of wonder, imagination and the written word.
The 2020 National Children’s Literary Festival will run from May 27th – 31st in Listowel Community Centre, Co. Kerry. The festival programme is currently being developed; in the meantime keep up to date with us on facebook.com/thenationalchildrensliteraryfestival.
