LISTOWEL WRITERS WEEK ANNOUNCE DETAILS OF THE KERRY GROUP IRISH NOVEL OF THE YEAR AWARD 2020 – LARGEST PURSE IN IRELAND WITH A PRIZE OF €15,000 FOR THE WINNING AUTHOR
10th December 2019: Submissions are now invited for the Kerry Group Irish Novel of the Year Award 2020. This award is for the best Novel by an Irish author published between 1st February 2019 and 31st January 2020 and holds the largest purse in Ireland with a prize of €15,000 for the winning author.
The Kerry Group Irish Novel of the Year 2019 was awarded to David Park for Travelling in a Strange Land published by Bloomsbury. The adjudicators for this year’s Award are award winning novelists Carol Drinkwater and Ian McGuire. The closing date for submissions is January 31st 2020. A short-list of 5 novels will be announced in March 2020. Each shortlisted author will receive €500.
2020 will mark 25 years of the Kerry Group Irish Novel of the Year. Frank Hayes, Kerry Group stated, “It is wonderful to be celebrating 25 years of the Kerry Group Irish Novel of the Year in 2020. This longstanding partnership with Listowel Writers’ Week has acknowledged the success of Irish authors for a quarter of a century now, and we look forward to celebrating the 2020 addition to these great literary alumni.”

Celebrating 50 years in 2020, Listowel Writers’ Week takes place from 27th– 31st May 2020.
About the Adjudicators
Carol Drinkwater is the author of twenty-four books, both fiction and non-fiction, and has achieved bestselling status – over a million copies sold worldwide – with her quartet of memoirs set on her Olive Farm in the south of France which also inspired a five-part documentary film series. Her latest two novels are: The Forgotten Summer, The Lost Girl and The House on the Edge of the Cliff.
Ian McGuire is the author of two novels, Incredible Bodies and The North Water. The North Water was long-listed for the Man Booker Prize, and was the winner of the Royal Society of Literature’s Encore Award and The Historical Writers Association Gold Crown Award.
