Listowel Writers’ Week Festival Blogger 2013

Hi from Jackie Goodall! I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as Listowel Writers’ Week official Blogger for the 2013 festival.

Jackie GoodallI’ve been involved with the festival since 2008 and over the years, have really enjoyed working alongside our fantastic team of voluntary organisers and staff.  As we fast approach our 42nd festival, we aim to ensure that Listowel Writers’ Week remains an essential and vital part of the literary and wider cultural landscape here in Ireland and overseas.

2013 festival dates are 29th May – 2nd June 2013

Being a freelance writer and journalist, I’m really looking forward to interviewing some of the major Irish and international writers and artists who will feature this year, alongside our emerging literary writers of tomorrow.

2013 is also the year of The Gathering – a year-long festival-of-festivals – and to celebrate it, we’re hosting a series of events that will focus on The Experience of Migration in Contemporary Irish Writing, The Great Irish Famine, A Tribute to the Work of Irish Poet Máire Mhac an tSaoi and The Irish-American Short Story and Poetry.  We are also delighted to introduce the New Writers’ Salon – an inaugural event which will showcase some of the best and most exciting emerging writers of today, many of whom have featured in Doire Press’ recently published 30 under 30.

The office is buzzing here at the moment in anticipation of our national launch on Wednesday 17th April and the announcement of our 5 shortlisted authors for the Kerry Group Irish Novel of the Year Award 2013.

Established in 1995 and sponsored by Kerry Group, the Kerry Group Irish novel of the Year is an annual award for Irish authors of fiction. Previous winners include Christine Dwyer Hickey, Neil Jordan, John Banville, William Trevor, Joseph O’Neill, Roddy Doyle, Sebastian Barry and John McGahern.

We are also going live for the first time with Online Booking! This will greatly improve the speed and flexibility of how you book your festival tickets.  If you prefer, you can of course still book in the traditional way, in person at Listowel Writers’ Week, Box Office, 24 The Square, Listowel, Co. Kerry or by phone +353 (0) 68 21074.

 Have a great weekend!
