RTE John Murray Show Poetry Competition

John Murray Show Poetry Competition In association with
Listowel Writers’ Week

The John Murray Show are delighted to announce on today’s show, Friday April 15, the inaugural John Murray Show poetry competition, in association with Listowel Writer’s Week.

The show are looking for poets – both young and old – to send in ONE poem on the theme of “Ireland 2011”.

The poem must be no more than twenty lines, and must be sent in by e-mail to poetrycompetition@rte.ie. It must be an original work by a living author and must not have been previously published or broadcast. Copyright will remain with the author, but the John Murray Show reserves the right to arrange the first publication or broadcast of poems. Submission of a poem implies acceptance of these conditions. The judges’ decision will be final.

And to be fair to all, we have three categories:

If you are in secondary school, you can enter as a Junior (that’s for students who are between first year and third year)

Or you can enter as a Senior (for students who are between Transition Year or 5th Year and Leaving Cert).

And then there’s the Adult category – for those of you who have left school behind.

So three categories in all, Junior, Senior and Adult.

Please include your full name, address, contact number AND the category you are entering.

The closing date for entries is: FRIDAY, MAY 13 2011

And the winners will all be our special guests in Listowel for Writer’s Week – we are presenting a special programme from the festival on Thursday June 2.

Each winner will receive:

  • Overnight accommodation on Wednesday 1st June at the Listowel Writer’s Week
  • Presentation of a Special Award Certificate at the Opening Night on Wednesday 1st June.
  • An opportunity to read their winning poetry at a special “Winners Reading” event which will be held on Thursday 2nd June at 11.00am at Listowel in front of an audience.
  • Tickets if you wish to attend any other literary events during the festival
