Do you remember the books you enjoyed as a child? Have they stayed with you forever because of the special impact they had on you? Do you wish to introduce, foster and nurture that same delight of the written word in your own children or the children you teach?
The National Children’s Literary Festival runs in conjunction with Listowel Writers’ Week, an internationally acclaimed literary festival devoted to bringing together writers and audiences at unique and innovative events in the historic and intimate surroundings of Listowel, County Kerry. The birthplace of many of Ireland’s prominent writers past and present including John B Keane, Bryan MacMahon, Brendan Kennelly, Gabriel Fitzmaurice and Maurice Walsh, Listowel Writers’ Week is the longest running, leading literary festival in Ireland, and will celebrate its 44th Festival in May 2015.
Children’s literature sits at the very heart of The National Children’s Literary Festival at Listowel Writers’ Week and we aim to work with and encourage parents and teachers to do just that – to enthusiastically entertain and engage your children and young people to develop a love for the written word in all its expressive forms.
We invite you to join us this year with your children to take part in a wide variety of excellent, imaginative and interactive readings and workshops from international children’s authors, illustrators and performance artists.
Whether your children are toddlers or pre-teens, they will participate in events that will offer them time to enjoy the written word and be encouraged to enhance their own skills of listening, questioning, illustrating, performing and writing.
Expect noisy times and quiet times alike as your children are encouraged to express themselves. Their self-confidence will be fostered and encouraged by opportunities to engage in the expressive arts as they are performed publicly.
