Date: Wednesday 27th May 2026

Venue: St John’s Theatre & Arts Centre

Time: 2PM

“An intimate kind of magic” is how writer Paul Howard has described Sunday Miscellany. With a simple format of short radio essays and the occasional poem interspersed by complementary music, this Sunday morning jewel in the RTÉ Radio 1 schedule has been part of listeners’ lives for over half a century.

The show explores themes of Irish life, culture, and personal reflection, and offers a quiet and reflective space for listeners. Featuring a wide spectrum of literary talent, the programme has well over 300,000 weekly listeners in Ireland and many thousands more overseas, online, and on podcast. An anthology of scripts broadcast from the show won an Irish Book Award in 2023; the latest, bestselling anthology, Sunday Miscellany: A Selection 2023-2025 (New Island Books) is currently in the shops.

The Miscellany team record a small number of highly popular live shows every year, and are delighted to return to Listowel in the festival’s 55th year. 90 minutes approx.

Presented by producer Sarah Binchy.
