This intensive 2 morning workshop will explore the craft of short story writing through close reading, discussion, and practical exercises. Participants are invited to read in advance works by Claire Keegan (Foster), John McGahern (Gold Watch), James Joyce (The Dead), and Éilís Ní Dhuibhne (The Coast of Wales).

Together, we will analyse how these stories are constructed and consider what they reveal about voice, structure, and style. The session also includes guided writing exercises, with opportunities for participants to share and workshop their own stories in a supportive group setting. Ideal for emerging and experienced writers alike.
Éilís Ní Dhuibhne is a well-known writer of fiction, drama and memoir. She is the current Laureate for Irish Fiction and has published over thirty books, won many literary awards, including the PEN Award for an Outstanding Contribution to Irish Literature and a Hennessy Hall of Fame Award. She is an experienced teacher of Creative Writing, and has taught at University College Dublin, Trinity College, Boston College, and the Irish Writers Centre.

One of Ireland’s most beloved literary voices, Christine Dwyer Hickey returns to Listowel and will be joined by Booker nominated and prize-winning author Andrew Miller. Together, these two celebrated writers explore themes of memory, love, and human resilience across time..They will be in conversation with poet Enda Wyley.
Christine Dwyer Hickey has published nine novels. The Narrow Land?won the Walter Scott Prize for Historical Fiction, Tatty was nominated for the Orange Prize and named one of the 50 Irish Novels of the Decade, while Last Train from Liguria was shortlisted for the Prix L’Européen de Littérature. Her latest novel, Our London Lives follows the captivating story of two Irish immigrants in England.

Andrew Miller’s latest novel, The Land in Winter, is set during the brutal winter of 1962–63, where two young marriages are tested amid a village slowly unravelling under the weight of isolation, secrets, and emotional strain. The event explores how memory, love, and human resilience endure across time, whether in a speculative future shaped by technology or a vividly rendered past grounded in lived experience.

Fifty years after his wrongful conviction, at the age of 74, Paddy is facing into his twilight years and wrestling with a thousand turbulent memories.

In Paddy he relives the journey that forever altered his destiny.

A one-man show, starring Don Wycherley as Paddy, the play is inspired by Paddy’s memoir Life After Life, a Guildford Four Memoir (2017).

Paddy is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the power of forgiveness, reminding us that the privilege of freedom and love, family and everyday life can restore us and mend the scars of even the most savage injustice.

Don Wycherley brings unflinching honesty, pathos and humour to his portrayal of Paddy, a man failed and scarred by a flawed system yet refusing to be defined by it.
